Pact Group is supplying Rotationally Moulded polyethylene (RMP) cladding panels to Sky Rail – one of the Victorian Government’s major urban infrastructure initiatives. Sky Rail is a $1.6 billion project that will see nine level crossings removed on the Cranbourne-Pakenham line between Caulfield and Dandenong and replaced with an elevated rail line.
The project involves the supply and installation of more than 8,500 panels over 21,500 linear meters and follows a lengthy testing and validation period whereby Pact’s RMP cladding panels were selected by the project architects with support from the Victorian Government and the Level Crossing Removal Authority, over glass and reinforced concrete alternatives.
The final designs were deemed to handle high exposure to UV whilst maintaining structural and cosmetic integrity withstanding a design life of up to 50 years.
The design process drew from various project experiences where noise abatement and cladding panels are already successfully in Peninsula Link (Victoria) and M5 motorway (NSW) widening project.
The Sky Rail panel manufacturing process commenced in Pact Groups Carrum Downs facility in July 2017 with completion expected in June 2018.
